Meath Tourism initiative short-listed for prestigious Chambers Ireland Award 2008

17, September 2008

Meet In Meath, the dedicated business tourism initiative from Meath Tourism, has been short-listed for the prestigious Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government Awards 2008. The initiative has been nominated in the ‘Partnership with Business’ section, overcoming initiative stiff opposition from all around the country to achieve the short-listing. The winners will be announced at a gala black-tie dinner on the 6th of November at the City West Hotel.

The short-listing for this coveted award is recognition of the unique marketing partnership between Meath Tourism, thirteen partner hotels and Meath County Council which underpins this project.

The hotels represented are: Ashbourne Marriott Hotel, Bettystown Court Hotel, City North Hotel, The Cusack Hotel Group (Ardboyne Hotel, Castle Arch Hotel, Knightsbrook Hotel & Golf Resort, Newgrange Hotel), Dunboyne Castle Hotel & Spa, Headfort Arms Hotel, Marriott Johnstown House Hotel & Spa, Moyvalley Hotel & Golf Resort, The Station House Hotel and Trim Castle Hotel. .

Outside the cities of Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Belfast, Meath is the only county to have taken the pro-active step of setting up a dedicated business tourism initiative to capitalize on the 600,000 business visitors who will be generating in excess of €1b to the Irish economy by 2013.

Meath Tourism continues to innovatively lead the way in attracting meeting, incentive and conference business to the county with recent initiatives including a corporate event in June where twelve of Ireland’s top conference and meeting bookers undertook a 2-day familiarisation trip to the County. A number of conferences and meetings have been booked as a direct result of this event.

Also under the theme of ‘Your Event – Our Two Millennia of Experience’, the re-modelled website www.meetinmeath.com captures the essence of Meath as one of Ireland’s leading meeting and event destinations – evoking the spirit of ancient meetings from the past and cleverly showing that Meath, with its uber modern hotel and meeting room stock, is a meeting destination of choice for national and international meeting planners.

One of the most innovative elements of the new site will be the ‘Instant Meeting Room Quotation’ system which later this year will allow visitors to the site to get instant meeting room quotes. Meath will be the first county in Ireland to provide this service on behalf of its hotels.
